Month In Review - April 2003
by David Tenemaza

Spring break was great, wasn't it!? However, most of us would have wished the release of new exciting games than the spring break! As many of us are aware, few good games have been released this month, here we will take a look at the ones you must own, and the others will be just left to be forgotten in the past.

Action

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell was finally released. After being released for XBOX, it has been released for the Nintendo Gamecube and of course, the PlayStation 2. The game is basically the same as it's XBOX prequel but now gamers that do not own the XBOX can experience what the game is like, and I'm sure that most of you who already bought the game are pretty happy with it since Splinter Cell offers a whole new gameplay technology. The player has available top notch graphics, ultimate sound effects and the most realistic gameplay. Developed by the UBI studios in Montreal, the game has plenty to offer, from new scenarios to high tech weapons and accessories, this game is a must have! For the Gamecube we had Ikaruga released. The game was released before for Dreamcast and now it's back with 2D action, arcade style shoot 'em up. So basically you know what the game is about, however you also must known the game is really hard even on easy mode, so watch out. For X-Man fans a new game was made available, however unless you are not a die hard fan of them, I would recommend you to rent the game before buying it. I have seen many make Wolverine commit suicide after they realize they just had wasted $50 and the store wouldn't give them their money back! This month XBOX owners seen their wishes come true, a new on-line game which especially for Star Wars fans is their top choice in the action genre! The multiplayer mode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is what's best about the game, the single player itself, I would say is just like the past Star Wars releases.

Driving/Sports

Unlike the adventure genre, which did not have any game worth mentioning, the Driving/Sports category has a lot of great releases and is probably this month's highlight. As soon as I started writing about this genre Midnight Club II for the PS2 came to my mind. The game has improved a lot since the prequel released a lot of time ago. As many of you may have heard it offers on-line multiplayer mode, so all the lucky owners of a cable/dsl modem and the network adapter may now race their buddies at night, what could be better than a high speed race in the streets of the most known cities in the world? So how about we race in L.A. tonight!? For the Gamecube we had Burnout 2: Point of Impact finally released. Just like the new Midnight Club made tons of PS2 owners happy, Burnout 2 did the same for Gamecube owners even though they still cannot play on-line. What else could you expect of a game with awesome pursuits and a countdown timer that will kill the inexperienced player. For Gameboy Advance players Crazy Taxi was made available, it's a fair game for a handheld, you might want to try it. This month it was also time for XBOX to get it's Pro Racing game, and I'm talking about the release of Pro Race Driver, the sequel to the PlayStation 2 version. The game was also released for PC but I personally would recommend the XBOX version of it. Pro Race Driver is not like other games, you might want to try it out since it has a original story line in your racing adventure, this might boost your interest in the game and the overall experience. Among other's Colin McRae Rally 3 was released for the PS2, very good game but I'm afraid it has little knew since the past Colin release. We also had Motor Trend Presents Lotus Challenge released for the XBOX but that's about it. As you can appreciate the Racing genre saved the month, however we had another notable release in the Sports genre, I bet many of you already got it, yes in fact it is NBA Street 2!

RPG/Strategy

Well guys, I thank God this genre does have something for me to write about. Let me start off by introducing you to Tropico 2: Pirate Cove. The game is very detailed and you will have to be really evil to keep all of your employees working for you. Wondering why? Well simply because you are supposed to be a pirate kidnapping people to work for you and develop a whole new town, a new nation. I think that might be pretty cool, worth a try. Golden Sun: The Lost Age was finally released, and you can guess there are thousands and thousands of people that have been waiting for this moment. As soon as the game was out everyone should have gotten a copy, so if you haven't yet go right now and don't miss one of the best RPGs for the GBA out as of yet! Yu-Gi-Oh had a successful new release. Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel is out. I don't really know though if Yu-Gi-Oh fans are buying the game for the 3 exclusive Promo cards or the game itself. Well both reasons I guess. The gameplay is really awesome, Yu-Gi-Oh fans will imagine that they are really in the Battle City, just like in the series and the Trading Card Game duelists will enjoy practicing since the rules in the game are not like in the series but like in the U.S. Official Tourney.

This month did not have that much of exciting releases but it did have some, and let me tell you, they are really good, in fact they are close to perfect. Let's hope next month we have a larger quantity of new releases.
