Take Two: Metroid Prime 2
by David Griggs

This Week’s Game of Speculation is: Metroid Prime 2

Ladies and gentlemen, gamers of all ages... ok, whatever. I haven't heard any reactions to the pilot article for this column because I haven't been online for the past few days. Ergo, I don't know what to improve on, so I hope you liked the first one and that there's nothing that needs improving.

Anyways, I am currently sitting at my girlfriend's graduation, completely bored because there are like 600 seniors and they're doing about 1 per 10 seconds... comes up to 6,000 seconds, 100 minutes, meaning: an hour and a half of names for one that's at the very end. I could learn to hate graduations... I'd managed to miss all of them but my own, and this one was kind of unavoidable.

One thing I forgot to do in my last article is pay my respects to an awesome guy who has left our midst, Though I don't know exactly why. He was the one who told me about this site and the one who got me the editor job here. Let’s have a moment of silence for Brandon Parker.

*SILENCE*

Ok, that's enough. On to Metroid Prime 2!

Some say Metroid Prime was one of the greatest games ever, others say it sucked worse then a $2 whore at Mardi Gras. Think what you may, the Metroid series hasn't gotten better then Super Metroid, but it's come extremely close! Prime is the first FPS that plays more like a 3rd person action game then the typical bond-type FPS.

One thing that was key to Prime's gameplay was the fiddling with the visors, so I would definitely look for some improvements and new ways to use the various modes which will probably be upgraded somehow. Hopefully they will incorporate some kind of intelligent visor option so you don't keep switching to the wrong visor all the time. Instead you would just hit a button and it would be the one that works for that situation. Also, I hope they give some more thought to the controls to make them more intuitive then they are right now.

Another feature which could definitely use some improvement is the auto-aiming. That just kind of sucked. If would never aim at the correct enemy when you wanted it to. I would also put in some kind of hit system. Thus, if something needs 3 hits to kill, now you would need 1 head shot, 5 limb shots, or 3 body shots, etc. to kill an enemy. Unfortunately, Metroid has always had a somewhat button mashing aspect to its shooting, so I wouldn't expect it.

Finally, a big hope of mine would be for some great plot development. Also, that the plot would be explained a bit more at the beginning and more of a mandatory aspect of the game then a side option. Perhaps they could put in another person that you would have to talk to throughout the game. Someone who you're trying to get answers out of, but they are very adept at eluding your attempts. Maybe some space flight could be introduced too, but I don't know how.

Anyway, hopefully this game will be out soon, but there's so much left to be finished with it. I don't believe they have even figured out the exact name, but that's ok. They just had better have a freaking' awesome game.
