Halley's Core Locations
Each level of the game has a Core hidden somewhere in it. For boss fights, all you have to do is kill your opponent to get it. But in regular levels, it typically requires some searching. So why do you wanna find all these things, anyway? Well, that's a surprise, but it is most defenitely worth it.
VALLEY 1
You should have no trouble finding it on this level. When you arrive at the area with a lot of platforms leading higher into the air, you'll see two pillars of rock. Get to the highest platform and fly over to the pillars. If you do it right, you'll be able to land on one of them. By now, you should have locked on to some strange glowing object on top of the second pillar. Remember what it looks like, as this is what holds the Halley Cores on each stage. Shoot it twice and it will open up, revealing the core. Now just hover over to it and grab it. That's one down.
VALLEY 2
This one is slightly trickier, but still nothing you can't handle. About halfway through this level, you'll come to a circular pit area (check your map) with platforms and gusts of air that blast you higher if you hover over them. Go inside the gust that takes you the highest and survey your surroundings. If you're observant enough, you probably already see where the Core is, but if not, just check around near where the two cave openings are on either side of the level. The Core is on a cliff next to the cave, so you need to boost over to it and land there. Now just grab it and get on with your business.
VALLEY 3
Things are getting tough now and the time limit certainly doesn't help. The core is at the VERY END of the level, so just rush through here destroying the bugs as stated in the mission parameters. When you get to the end (you'll know it, because the only opening to the place is the cave you came out of), ignore all the bugs in your way and jump on the ascending platforms until you reach the top. Now boost over to the cliff and go down. You'll see a large lake and some waterfalls. Sorta looks like where you got the Drive Gun in the first level. The Core is in the exact same place. Now go backwards and waste the bugs to complete the level.
CIVILIAN BASE 1
The Core is hidden very well in the next-to-last room of this level. When you come to the large, open square-shaped room with the two hook targets near the ceiling, you're in the right place. Go up to the second level and look to the right (you'll be facing in the direction of the door you came in from). Near the corner opposite the door is a hook
target. Shoot it with the Hook and you'll find an opening in the floor. Drop down and the core will be in a small room all by itself.
CIVILIAN BASE 2
The core on this level is a bit out of the way. When you come to the room that looks like a weird elevator shaft (you have to jump through the ceiling of one room to get here.), go to the corners of the room on the lowest level and drop down. Now you'll be underneath the area and the core is right there. Schwing!
CIVILIAN BASE 3
You're going to have to be really careful here, if you're going to get that core. If you check the map, you'll see that there are about three doors near the bottom of the pipe on the sides. What you want to do is get to the door nearest the bottom (on the first pipe, mind you. The one you start off in). When you're standing in front of that door, simply go in and you'll find yourself in an identical pipe. Turn left rather than jump into it. Now jump over the edge and land on the platform below it. Now go directly beneath where the door was and there's the core!
NAGLFAR'S PIT 1
This one's easy. It's right underneath the little platform you start out on. Ironic that it should be so simple on such a mind-numbingly difficult level, huh? You're going to have to brave the acid water junk to get that core, though.
NAGLFAR'S PIT 2
Another easy one, the core is in the very center of the acid in the bottom of the first room. No problem there.
YGGDRASIL 1
This is a small level, so if you keep your eyes open, you won't have any trouble. It's on one of the branches to the side of the level, about halfway down.
YGGDRASIL 2
Basically the same as YGGDRASIL 1. Just keep looking and you'll find it easily.
Bosses
(Keep in mind that this section of the guide refers to the Story mode of GunValkyrie, where only Kelly can fight bosses.)
#1
Daihellm*
Cross between an octopus and a pear
Ooh shiny. This fool seems hard at first, but once you know the trick, he's a snap. First, get relatively close to him so you can aim at his underside without actually being beneath him. He's going to shoot out some blue fireballs. Ignore them and shoot at the target that appears as he prepares to attack. You only have time to hit it once, so instead of firing again, back up. Now he's going to try a new tactic, so make 100% sure that you aren't beneath him. Instead of fireballs this time, he's going to try to fall on you. If you're lucky, you can get two hits in here. Just repeat this process over and over.
When he gets down to half-health, Daihellm will drop to the ground and start glowing blue. Put about half the room between you and him. He's going to begin spinning quickly and heading in your direction. If you get hit, it could be game over. When he gets close to you, hover in place as high as you can and look straight down. When you're directly over him, you can target his core. Shoot it once. then side dash in mid air so you don't land on him. Now backwards dash from him and get ready to do that again. If you get too close to him at any given time, he may turn into a huge, stationary spiked ball. So don't get close to him unless you're
going to shoot him.
*You will fight a Daihellm clone in Civilian Base 3. He's a little tougher, but the same strategy applies.
#2
False Hebble
Description: Large green bipedal insect
Upon climbing to the top of the area in Naglfar's Pit 1, you will fall inside the huge sphere and be placed in a battle with the False Hebble. Depending on how well you climbed through the area, your health may be rather low. If this is the case, try to kill some enemies on the platforms near the top of the sphere to gain health before entering.
Once you reach the utmost platform, you must dash forward over the hole in the top of the sphere and fall down into the boss arena. But instead of falling, start boosting around in mid air as you fall. First forwards, then backwards, then side to side over and over until you enter Mobius Mode (you will know when this happens, as you will become invincible and start glowing). Now drop down and face the boss. Fire as many times as possible, dealing him major damage. Eventually, he will fall over.
By now, your Mobius power has probably run out, but he's half dead anyway. Back up and keep shooting at him. He will either shoot a bunch of easily dodged fireballs at you, or he'll get trickier. If he's really close to death, he'll pull out what looks like a huge blade, which will begin spinning and turn blue. Dodge it as best you can and keep unloading plasma into him (don't use your drive gun unless you're in Mobius Mode. You have to move around a lot in this battle). Eventually he'll fall down for the last time.
#3
Nidhogg
Description: A green dragon with a sword
This guy looks tougher than he really is. After all the trouble you went through with Naglfar's Pit 1, this should be a breeze. Use the plasma gun, since your rapid fire weapon won't even scratch him. Just keep a steady stream of plasma on him at all times, while constantly doing sideways dash jumps to leap over and out of the way of the ice he throws at you. Try to keep him at a distance, as he may take a few swings with
his sword. He'll do this even if you aren't near him, which means you have a chance to get in a few free hits, if he jumps at you, just back up. Sometimes, he'll surround you with a wall of ice on all sides. Keep moving when this happens, as he will cause ice to come up out of the ground that injures you on contact (though not very badly). Keep shooting all the while. You can still hurt him through the wall. After about two minutes of this, he will die a very anticlimactic death and the new, super Gear skin will be yours. Congratulations. You've definitely earned it.
#4
Mimir
Description: Bunch of ugly sand worms
Mimir is actually a five-part boss. Kind of brings back memories of Zelda: A Link To The Past, eh? Don't let nostalgia dull your senses, though. This guy is tough. For most of the fight, the five worms that make up Mimir will lurk underground.
What you need to do is keep an eye on each and every one of them as best you can. Don't let them run into you. It might help to hang out by the edge of one of the arena walls, just don't lose your maneuvering room. Sometimes, one of the worms will
begin glowing white and charge at you. Simply jump, hover, and air dash over it.
Sooner or later, one or more of the worms will poke its ugly head out of the ground. Start firing away, but be wary of the seeds it shoots into the air. These will fly around for a while, and then home in on you, causing minimum damage. It's best to use the plasma cannon again here, since, as always the Drive gun does nothing. And when the seeds are flying, you can hold down the fire button and lock on to them, destroying them before they get close. Now go back to shooting the worm.
Every now and then, the worms will hop out of the ground and start flopping. In this form, they can't hurt you unless you actually walk into them. So fire away.
After taking enough shots, the worms will die until there's just one left. Finish it off. Yippee.
#5
Svart
Description: Big, purple, blob thingy.
Uh, Okie dokey. Now would be a bad time to try to figure out what the plot of this freaking' game is, seeing as how Svart is big, nasty, and not going to show you any quarter. Yeah, he's gonna mess you up.
Or... Will he? Actually, all he really does is sort of float there and spin, occasionally taking a few seconds out of his busy schedule to howl. Right. The only thing you have to worry about from him is being hit by one of his "legs."
He'll summon other creatures to do the fighting for him. Recognize 'em? Yep, that's just Nidhogg with a doll mask on. Creepy! He is actually a lot harder this time, since you'll be fighting plenty of clones of him on this small platform. About three shots from the plasma gun should wipe him out.
But he's got a new ability this time. Each Nidhogg thingy can now fire a ton of black stones at you. You can shoot them, but they move so fast and there's so many that it's best just to side dash to dodge them. Or, if nothing else, use GV Napalm so they won't hurt you (this works well when you're surrounded by Nidhogg's, too).
After destroying every Nidhogg, Svart's shields go down. Fire at his creamy center a few times, then it'll re-seal again. Aww. Now you've got to fight a few more Nidhoggs. Just repeat the whole tiresome process to lower the shields. Remember that the closer Svarts is to death, the more Nidhogg's he's going to throw at you. Before starting this mission,
you should probably purchase a reserve shield just in case.
#6
Ivaldi
Description: ..Angel?
You know, I’m starting to think the developers of Gun Valkyrie put these confusing plot points before boss fights just to mess with us.
Ah well, never mind that. First thing you'll notice is that no matter how many different ways you try to hit this beast, none of them hurt him. Seems he has some kind of strange force field, typical. There's a specific way to lower it and it's sort of tricky, so I'll walk you through it. First you need to aim in the direction of Ivaldi. Wait till he's floating in one place. Now push down on BOTH analog sticks while pointing in his direction. If done correctly, you will do a quick dash at him, knocking him backwards. If you're having trouble, try jumping first, then doing it, you need to do this about three times before his shield will collapse. You'll know if you hit him by the color of the smoke he breathes. Red means the force field is about to go down. Once it does, start blasting away with burning hot plasma. Much like that freaky Svart thing, his shield will regenerate eventually, so make it count. Eventually you're going to run out of power to use GV Napalm. To refill it, just jump up in the air and start boosting around in
every possible direction (much like when you're trying to trigger Mobius Mode).
Ivaldi has a whole ton of attacks in his repertoire. The most common is the fireball one, where he stops in mid air, spins his "sword" and sends all kinds of (you guessed it) flaming balls of... well, fire.. at you. You can just side dash to avoid this. Now would be a good time to rush him, too, if his shields are up. Then there's the one where he starts spinning in place and firing tiny blue balls at you. Another good chance to hit him (and easily avoidable, too); finally, he'll send little energy balls at you that will trap you in place if you touch them. So don't.
Just keep rushing him each time his shields come up until you can lock on to him. Now fire away. When he's close to death, he'll start trying new moves, such as tossing his sword at you. Just hover around it. And do keep your distance now. He has a new close range attack that will seriously injure you.
He should be about dead by now and you will have no problem finishing him off. Now you should pat yourself on the back because you've just completed one of the most difficult games for the Xbox, no small feat indeed!
