007 James Bond Jumps Ship To Activision on May 03, 2006.
Bond, this is Activision. Activision, this is Bond. Lets make some games.

MGM Interactive and EON Productions Ltd. Announced today that Activision is the new holder of the rights to develop and publish games featuring our favorite super spy James Bond 007. Activision now has the reigns to the franchise until 2014. The previous holder of James Bond’s “license to kill” was Electronic Arts (EA Games) who churned out several bond games in the last few years including Everything or Nothing, From Russia With Love and the ill received Goldeneye: Rouge Agent. Rouge Agent was an attempt to capture the feel of what fans arguably consider to be the best in the franchise, the Nintendo 64’s Goldeneye developed by Rare.

Activision provided a detailed explanation of the rights:

“Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will obtain the worldwide rights to create video games for all current and next-generation consoles, PC and hand-held platforms. The license will grant Activision the right to develop and publish games based on all of the James Bond movies, as well as non-movie based games.”

It looks like fans of the series will be seeing changes not only from the movie end of the franchise, but the games as well. Time will tell if Activision can make as big a mark as the developers before them.
