Preview for Call of Duty

Intro:

Since “Medal of Honor”, there have been a slew of strategic First-Person Shooters that have tried to mimic its excellent single-player and multi-player modes. At E3 this year, developer Infinity Ward unveiled “Call of Duty”. Soon to be released during the fall of 2003, it was a huge PC hit of the annual Electronics Entertainment Expo. Wading through the long running “hey-they-made-a-good-game-let’s-copy-them” ideal among half-assed attempts, Call Of Duty hopes to redefine a portion of PC games that have had not been living up to most gamers’ standards: single-player. The game pulls your through three different soldiers, Russian Private Alexei, American Pfc. Martin, and British Sergeant Evans. Each side has it’s own quirks, and hope to make the game varied for all types of gamers. On the graphics side, CoD is being run on a modified version of the “Quake 3” engine. Read on to get the first impressions of this game, and whether you should enlist.

Call of Duty looks extremely promising, from gameplay to visual style to just plain fun. To start off, the enemy AI looks to be amazing, having Nazis duck behind obstacles and fire from windows, ensuring that you Russian/American/British scum don’t get past them alive. In addition to the enemy AI, friendly AI will lay down cover fire for you, or steer vehicles and you fire away at your pursuers. Beyond this, the AI on both ends of the spectrum seems to be solid, and without a doubt will most likely be vital to your team and providing a challenge for you.

Not only does the AI look killer, but also the different levels promise to throw you into a lot of variety. The Russian missions look to put you in a rush of poorly armed men that are being gunned down by better armed and better trained German soldiers stationed in trenches. The stealthier British missions, and the cowboy-like attitude of the American missions will trade off this furious action. These variations and innovation in level and locales (from Stalingrad to Brecourt Manor on D-Day) in themselves prove to give the game high marks with gamers.

Winning gameplay will win over many people, but graphics, no matter what kind of gamer you are, if the visuals are horrible, it will turn you off. Thank goodness the Quake 3 engine is making the game look wonderful, creating an edgy feel with the bombed out buildings and debris strewn across the land.

Not many details about the multiplayer have been released, but it’s likely that the game will include the typical modes of multi-play, and online as well as LAN capabilities. You’ll likely see Deathmatch, as well as objective-based maps and whatnot, all in the vein of Medal of Honor.

Facts:

- 20 members from 2015, which worked on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, are on board Infinity Ward

- The game WILL include blood, unlike Medal Of Honor, which decided to exclude this “feature”
