Escape From Monkey Island8

Escape From Monkey Island Review

Escape from Monkey Island for the Playstation 2 is a port of the popular PC game. It’s one of the last true adventure games to come out. An adventure game focuses more on your thinking skills than action. You have to talk to people, pick up various items, use them in different situations, etc. It's a game for people who have an open mind, and are patient. Read on to find out if it is worth playing!

Escape From Monkey Island is the fourth installment of the Monkey Island series. You play as Guybrush Threepwood, an up and coming pirate in the Melee Island area. You start off the game returning to Melee Island with his wife, Elaine Marley. She is the governor of Melee Island. They were gone for so long, they were announced legally dead. So now Guybrush has to quest so Elaine can become governor again.

Once you start playing the game, you can talk to anyone you see, and pick up a lot of different items. You need to do these kinds of things to advance farther into the game. It sounds quite simple, but the item puzzles are actually very difficult. The game doesn't give you any hints about what you need to do next, so you might have to use a strategy guide to get through the game. It’s not a very long game, only about 10-12 hours.

The graphics do not look that great at first, but they grow on you. The character models aren't very detailed, and are blocky. These character models actually work well in the game, so they don't look ugly. The backgrounds are hand drawn, and look beautiful. There are lots of details in the backgrounds, and some nice lightning effects. The framerate is a problem sometimes. It's normally at 30, but can stutter a lot.

The voice acting is Hollywood caliber. The characters sound like they are actually in the situations, and deliver their lines with a lot of humor. The music is catchy, with a lot of pirate songs, and Caribbean songs. Overall, it does nearly everything right with the sound.

Once you beat the game, there really won't be much to do. This is the type of game that after you solve the puzzles once, you won’t get too much enjoyment after solving them again. Escape From Monkey Island is now at the low price of $15, so there's really nothing to lose if you decide to pick it up. So go start your pirate adventure now!
