Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (XBOX)8.5

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (XBOX) Review

Gamers today have always complained about the main directives of a game, “save the princess”, “Kill the Dragon” and “Stop the megalomaniac corporation bent on world domination” what gamers really want these days is a little thing people all open-ended gameplay, since the advent of such games, none have really come to mind, until now. The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind for the Xbox is a first person/third person RPG adventure, and this game reeks of open-ended gameplay, this game gives you a choice, whether you wanna just wander the expansive world, killing monsters, or if you just wanna collect a large quantity of items, sell them and get tons of cash. This game lets you play all roles from a noble knight, to the silent assassin, the options are limitless.

Morrowind’s sounds are not the best, but they do offer enough to the game to really set it off, the growls of monsters, the clangs of steel, the gurgles of your enemy’s last breath, really nice stuff. The music really sets the mood, even though they do get repetitive, they are catchy, but not so that they are stuck in your head.

I can’t reveal too much of the plot of Morrowind, but I can tell you this, a plague is infecting the world of Morrowind, you, as a convict let out of prison, is the only one who can stop it. The game starts with you in a prison ship, you can’t see who you are, but that doesn’t matter, anyways, you get brought up on the deck of the ship and are asked a series of questions. This is the character generation screen, and if I say so myself, it is the most impressive character generation screen I’ve seen in a while. After you create you’re soon-to be legend, you’re off to stop the plague that is turning Morrowind into a legion of Zombies (I think Capcom™ might sue someone…)

By no means is Morrowind a short game, even after you beat the game, it can still be played, work your guy to the ultimate level or do all the side quests, do what you wanna do, even try to wipe out the world if you want to (I am), The possibilities are endless. Along with the possibilities, there are loads of items to acquire, from purely salable items (spoons, forks, bowls, pottery) to weapons and armor, the game also employs a spell making system that allows you to find a person that can do so, and for the right gold, will forge two or more of your spells together for real good spells, the same can be done with items like pants, shoes, ect.

Morrowind’s graphics are a little on the bland side, however, and the animations were done without little care, thought that can be over looked, as the overall world looks nice, which is good, as it’s all hand made, which is a nice touch. All the blemishes above can be easily overlooked when you’re in first person mode. All in all, Morrowind is the best RPG the Xbox has to offer, thought the main quest is dry and often gives bad directions to where you need to be, it’s a very solid RPG with a high replay value.
