Auto Modellista Review

Racing Games have been out there and have progressed from 2D to 3D dating back to such games like Virtua Racing on the Sega Genesis. So far one racing game has proved real car physics can indeed be ported over into a game. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec is so far the only game that gives off light to true racing fans. Capcom has decided to give it a shot in the racing arena and steps up with there own title called Auto Modellista.

Auto Modellista sports the new type of style referred to as Cel Shading effects. The idea may seem awkward at first, but seeing it in action will amaze most people. The games mode offers a spiff of varieties from Garage Life to Network Mode. In Garage Life a person chooses a car from a brand of manufacturers like Nissan, Honda, Toyota, and Shelby. Then a serious of process at which you create a License Plate Number. The real treat is taking your car to the streets to gain new tune up parts regarding body kits, turbine kit, brakes, racing chip, and decals to design your car.

Stages are grouped up according to levels with different courses in each level. The first set of races offer no challenge until you get further into the game it gets more challenging. This can be matched up by tuning your car with an upgrade of Engine or swapping if desired, but limited considering it can't be modified once you swap. Tires also play a role considering a sports tire offer more grip and semi slick gives a slight drift to turns. Body kits and parts are nice features to give your car a more street style look with company parts from MazdaSpeed, NISMO, and others. The paint job feature is also rather unique with a large number of colors to choose from. Decal creator is definite prize for the ones who are creating a team and want to represent it with their team logo. Want to add effects to your previous races well this can be done through VJ Feature to dramatize the race with a series of screen effects. Arcade Mode and offers a list of stages to choose from and either choosing a car with pre decaled stickers or just choosing one of the cars you hooked up during Garage Life. Versus Mode is about the same with split screen action between opposing racers. Network Mode is the best of all, utilizing the Sega SNAP and being broadband only. In the online process you are greeted to choose either of the three sections divided up into Mountain, City, and Circuit. One problem with online mode is that most of the people race in the City section which is the straightaway courses in which people can just zoom by each other with no skill what so ever needed. Mountain is where all the skilled racers are at.

The control mechanics in this game are great but the slight tweak made in the last few months gave it a slippery feeling. The only way that can seem to adjust this is by switching tires and replacing the brakes with a more stable one. Sound isn't bad for the music is great. The annoying part is the commentator even though he doesn't say his lines all the time it just clicks to your head after a few hours. Overall this game isn't bad for what Capcom has offered the ability to tune up car, replay enhancer, and free online play.
