Anarchy Online is not just another MMORPG game. It's uniqueness relies within different aspects in the game but perhaps one of the most interesting details is that the game is in the future. Anarchy Online is a Sci-Fi MMORPG and since the beginning you feel like you are entering a whole new world and completely unique. You arrive at the planet of Rubi-ka and immediately you begin the character creation procedure which is pretty cool and different from other games. It's a lab like procedure where at first you chose from 4 breeds (solitus, atrox, opifex and nano) which are all pretty similar but with their own advantages. After that you will proceed to chose from 12 different profession. Each with its advantages and disadvantages (you will have to play most of them to experience the game at its max). After you have read about each profession you will chose one and proceed to your physical details. This is the part where I got a little disappointed. You can't edit your face and hair separately, they come together which makes the variety of persons (among thousands) shorter. However you won't find many look alikes it might as well be because most wear helmets. I have seen around 3-4 characters in a city in one month of playing the game and it sometimes leads to confusion. After this step you will finally be ready for the game. You appear on a airport like room and then you have to take a side. Clan (the rebels), Neutral, or Omni (The Company Omni-Tek). It doesn't matter what you pick here since later you can buy a form and change sides however you can never become neutral was you have chosen another side. Depending on the alignment you chose you will now appear in one of the many backyards in the city and you will start getting familiarized with the controllers and gameplay.
The game offers a gameplay similar to other RPGs however it has a high replay value due to certain unique characteristics that it has added to it. One of them is the mission boot. You will find solo and team mission boots in every single city in the world of Rubi-ka. Here you can chose among a variety of missions, according to your choice hard or easy and with many other options you are able to set, like would you prefer money or experience. Doing missions is vital for clanners and omnis since they earn tokens which get them valuable rewards (hp increases, etc..) once they reach a certain amount of them. This is not all what missions are for. They are mostly used to find an item you want to loot from a boss (team missions) or to receive the mission reward (single missions) that you want. Not only this but team missions have proved to be a fast way of leveling. Another way you will entertain yourself in this game and probably forget what's around you is by going hunting. At all levels there will be a place where you can go hunt monsters either with a team or solo. This is mostly done to level fast and gain IP points (used to increase your skills). The pastimes mentioned above are mostly to train or get money however the main thing in the game is the conflict between omnis and clans, and of course both of them trying to influence the neutrals. There are many organizations for each of the alignments and there are many land control areas. So well, the organizations take control of the areas and build towers. Then they will try to defend their land for being conquered by other organizations from enemy sides. This involves PvP fights which is probably where most of the fun is.
If we forget about some characters looking alike the graphics of the game are splendid. While I played the game in three different computer I noticed that in a 1.0ghz with 32MB the game looks pretty good, however with 128MB of graphics the game looks awesome. All the people look realistic and thanks to the huge variety of clothing and armor the feeling of playing the game and walking around the cities is indescribable. The atmosphere animations are also great. You will find yourself in storms, or in days with sun shine, or perhaps you will be sitting enjoying the moonlight and the beautiful view of the stars (if you are so hooked that you can't stop playing at 3am to go check out the night sky). While playing I also noticed that the sky is never the same, it's always different, the moons might be in different positions or the color is different, in other words its fantastic. The sound is just right too. Every scenery and city has its own sound effects, and they won't get you annoyed. However nothing s perfect, the game does have many bugs and this also affects the graphics section. For instances sometimes I find myself going through a wall and I think "w00t did I get a nano that makes me invisible!?!" and then I find myself trying to go back in the city and I cant, so I have to take a long walk to get to the door. Once I fell through the floor and I found myself under the city with no way back. I was around level 20 so I had to terminate and lose all the xp I had just earned from doing a mission.
The bugs are certainly the worst part of the game. As I described above there are many other bugs that the developers are trying to solve. Lag is also a factor that will get you annoyed. If you are not playing on a good pc with a good broadband connection you will experience many difficulties with lag. You may be going in a populated place with your team and you see them running and running you just keep following them when you notice them crash against the wall and you will figure it out, lag! During times like this you might be getting attacked and not notice without having any chance to heal yourself. You may also disappoint your friends by letting them die and of course lose your valuable experience.
Unlike in other MMORPGs when you die you don't go down a level or maybe worse. You either go to the last point you saved (there are machines in the cities where you go and pay a small amount to save your xp) or if you didn’t save you lose all your experience points. Also according to your level you will experience (if above 20 all of the following) resurrection effects where your skills go down for a short period of time and item reclaim. This is very easy to adapt to but very annoying to be a prey of. So like in every game... you don't want to die.
Among other things in the game you can buy vehicles. The ground and hydro vehicles did not surprise me as I did expect something like that however the air vehicles are just great. Their speed is incredible but their price is too. You might as well say that the prices are crazy and maybe they are. However if you aren't new to the game you will find a way of making money fast and the 8 million for the car you want won't seem much, but even I haven't yet figured out how do some spend 80 million in a air vehicle! After all a vehicle is not something crazy to cry about, as long as your organization keeps your land safe. You will be one big happy fellow.
Anarchy Online has proved to be an excellent MMORPG, even though it has some bugs you can just do so much in it. Fight, explore, make some credits, show everyone how strong you are or just go make new friends and party with them! The game is worth the monthly fee, definitely. Just remember you always have the FREE 7 day trial, so why not give it a try!?
