Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius5.5

Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius Review

Introduction
Jimmy Neutron was a movie made by nickelodeon that was created using computer technology. That was Nickelodeons first venture into the world of CG animation (they now have the Butt Ugly Martians). The movie was enjoyable even for some adults. The only thing that critics really harped on was the
fact that the animation wasn't as advanced as Toy Story or Monsters Inc. The movie sold moderately well and now the channel now has plans to make air a weekly television show (most likely with budget cuts and less advanced animation). Now the game was released when the movie came out back a few months ago. The reason we review it now is because the movie has just been released on video and DVD.

Gameplay
Jimmy Neutron is also well done but is a tad bit stiff in the animation department. The game has some flashy special effects and they work well to make the game more flashy. The music is decent and never becomes too annoying that you would want to stop the game (that's the gameplay job). The sound effects are simple and generic but also never become too tedious. Overall the graphics and sound work well to make a neat presentation, but i can only imagine that these achievements were only made to attempt an apology for the games dull and outright boring gameplay. Its not that its bad, i mean its just that its horrid. The overly simple game mechanics and the scarce adventure elements make the game a chore to play. You literally spend half the game walking (or running, if that's what its support to look like ). The game is paced very slowly and will make even the younger players snore. They tried to mix in adventure elements and failed miserably. The only thing that they did well with was the nicely designed over world map in which you and your pet dog walk around the town examining areas which turn out to be levels. The weapons Jimmy gets are plain dull and its very difficult to attack flying or suspended objects. The game does have an interesting last level but that hardly makes up for the big mistakes made here. The story attempts to closely follow the movie and does well, but the story in the movie wasn't anything to cry home about to begin with.

Story
Unfortunately many will want to stick to the movie or even the upcoming show because this game didnt come out too hot. Now the game has some flashy graphics (the characters look like their CG counterparts) and some decent music but the gameplay is so bland and dull that it may leave even younger players bored. The game is short in length and can be beaten very quickly by adults and the game can only be made slightly longer if played by a younger kid. Lets start with the good. Shall we? The graphics are bright and vibrant and present the world of Jimmy Neutron very accurately. The environments are lush and the colors complement the Gab's great coloring power. The enemies models are very nicely detailed and feature smooth animation that make them seem like real living things (well sort of,im not going to drool over it).

Graphics
Overall Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius is a game that is wonderful to look at but simply boring to play. I recommend that if you must at least try it, then you should rent it. But a purchase is not the best way to spend your money.
Hopefully if they make a game based on the show they will know what not to do. We hope!
