Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Xbox) Review
If there is any game that causes Playstation 2 owners to flock to their local game retailer its usually Grand Theft Auto. The series has practically become the platform's trademark game and regardless of the ports to the PC and Xbox, many strict PS2 users will claim it as their own. Unfortunately for those people, San Andreas has finally been ported to the Xbox (and PC). Now while you won't find anything dramatically different in this version, it must be said that San Andreas is best when played on the Xbox. The added ability to have custom soundtracks is a godsend for those who didn't particularly enjoy the music included with the game. The soundtrack was quite excellent as it reflected the times and setting perfectly but being able to add your own tunes is definitely a plus. The only other major addition to note is that the graphics are noticeably sharper on the Xbox and the framerate is much more stable. Pop in is still present and the Xbox version seems to have acquired a knack for severe "jaggies" (a lack of anti-aliasing) but overall this is much more vibrant and colorful San Andreas. Don't expect anything new in terms of gameplay. Aside from some "questionable" mini games that may have popped up, the core game is intact. The controls are generally accessible on the Xbox but it has a small problem when it comes to properly mapping out the flying controls. Other than that there really isn't much new to go over with this new version of the game and the initial coverage of the game stays true to this.
