Scooby Doo: The Motion Picture Review
Introduction Scooby Doo: The Movie has been given mixed reviews by many critics, saying that the movie is good but it doesn't hold its own for the older audiences. That factor comes into play even more with the game adoption of the same name. The game makes an attempt at making the adventure genre new again. But in the end it falls flat. The game tries hard to be something its not.
Gameplay The story in the game will eventually catch you up on what happened in the movie (if for some reason your afraid of theatres). But as I said before, its just not as well represented as the movie's version.
Story The game is a flop that will be quickly forgotten, and in the midst of it all, another Scooby game is sure to come. The game attempts an intriguing twist on the franchise more then it does for the genre. You play Scooby (shaggy tags along but is never really there) in a quest to solve the problems that have risen in Spooky Island. You have been hired by the all too humble owner (who isn't that worried) to solve the mysteries of the ghost, goblins and other strange occurrences that have been popping up on the island. Well the story is self explanatory after that, but it doesn't capture the Scooby feeling that the movie achieves so well.
Graphics The Graphics are not anything to cry home about, simply because they don't even reach the mediocre mark. The backgrounds are the only saving grace, as they are very colorful and attractive to the eye. Although they are not as sharp as they could have been (bad case of the grainy flu). The graphical travesty comes into play with the horrible character models. The main character models do not even slightly resemble the characters we've came to know and love. They are blocky and and ugly and they have no detail. In all honesty they look like walking blobs of candle wax (which is not appealing, unless you are a match). They move very inconsistently and their animations are stiff and choppy. Scooby is the only character that resembles himself in any way (ok maybe the sorry excuse for shaggy also, but come on). Overall the graphics are not going to help the Game Boy Advance strut its stuff.
Sound The Gameplay is simple. And pretty much that's all that needs to be said. Its simple to the point where everything you need to do is pointed right at your face. And even little kids don't always wish to be given the answers. While there not simply given to you, the clues tell you too much and believe me there are too many clues. The game has Scooby snacks which aids Scooby by keeping him on his toes. There is a narrator that attempts to fill you in on the all to vague story. The gameplay is basically running and solving simple puzzles (which really are the clues). The Game is very short and can take a couple days but many people would not wish to play it that long, and would either burn it or store it in a closet. In all honesty over half of the game is spent walking without any idea of what to do. This makes the game boring, and boring is the nicest thing i can say about it. Overall don't expect much out of gameplay.
