Nicktoons Racing Review

Introduction
I was very skeptical when i first turned on this game because I felt that I would get a similar bad experience with this port that I have had with its Pc counterpart. The Pc version of this game had so many problems that even kids would be disgusted with it. But this time, I was in for a surprise. This smaller version of the original game improves on almost every aspect of the original. The graphics are colorful and detailed and the music is bright and contains a lot of nickelodeon flair. The gameplay also fares well as it is the most fun kart game on the Game Boy Advance since Mario Kart Super Circuit. Although the weapons are unbalanced and sometimes unfair, they are familiar objects to Nick fans. I was very impressed with Nicktoons Racing but there were some tiny flaws that kept it from getting a higher score.

Gameplay
The Graphics are also impressive. I liked the track designs and I liked the way the backgrounds represented the popular cartoons. The tracks are colorful and are full of objects familiar to the shows. The character models are the gem though as they are highly detailed (except for the freaky cat dog model) and do well with the pseudo 3D tracks. I think that if there was one gripe about the graphics it would be the somewhat repetitive nature of some of the tracks. But overall good work on visuals. Sound is the only area of this game that is what we call ,average. The sound effects are generic and the voice clips are choppy. The worst part though is the kart noises are horrible, they just become so annoying. The music though, is bright cheerful and reflects upon the cartoons themes. I think the sound on a whole could have been better.

Story
The Gameplay is very balanced considering this game is basically a rehash of a million different kart franchises. The controls vary depending on the character. Some levels depend on the abilities of certain characters to make sharp turns while others need a fast top speed. The AI is not that difficult to deal with but they are worthy fighters because as you raise the difficulty, they become increasingly more aggressive. That can be good and bad, its good for those who want a challenge, but it may be bad considering the age group it aimed at. The weapons are slightly unbalanced and they take precise calculation to actually hit somebody. Other weapons though, are a lot easier to use. The track selection is huge and the character selection is also quite large. The game is going to take a while to complete although it doesn't have the longevity of other kart racers. The only big gripe i have about the gameplay is that the tracks are too short, and it its hard to win back the race if you hit a corner, but otherwise its fun.

Graphics
Overall this game is an excellent example of how good things can happen to an often neglected license. I say that this game is a must buy for kart fans but may be a little difficult for the younger ages. I think that this game should seriously be considered to be placed in you Game Boy Advance library.
