Super Ghouls And Ghosts Review
Introduction The series that began on the original Nintendo has finally arrived onto the Game Boy Advance. This installment of the series is not perfect by any means, but it's not a bad game either. Many newcomers to the series will find the game quite difficult. The main character only has only two hits before he literally becomes a pile of bones. The series has withstood the test of time and is a great retelling of a classic game. As in many Capcom games, there are plenty of dead zombies walking around. The game is still aimed at a reasonable age level. This review will cover what makes this game great and what makes this game short of brilliance.
Gameplay The Graphics are nothing spectacular. They may be colorful and they may be very well done, but the visual lack one thing that gamers have been craving for a lot more these days. That would be detail. The visuals are very simple and in some respects, plain. This does not hurt the game in any way but it just doesn't make the game a feast for the eyes. The bosses are nicely detailed but the plain enemies look generic and devoid of any articulation. As I said, the visual aren't bad and they do the job for a game that was obviously designed for its challenging gameplay. Overall the visuals are decent in a simple colorful way. Just do not expect an artist to drool over it.
Story The gameplay is the best area of the game and while it does have its flaws, it still is the best aspect of this game. This installment follows all the rules that were set in the original. That includes the ability to be creamed after only two hits. Some may complain that it makes the game an unpleasant experience, but in the end, all it does is make the game a worthy challenge for hard-core gamers. The weapons are varied and so are the enemies you will fight. The bosses are the high points of the game and they make the gamer feel as if they accomplished something after defeating them. The game has a barebones story that does not require any immediate education to understand. The game is quite long for an action game, but the term long is stretched in the realm of portable gaming so don't expect a years worth of gaming. The game is also short on extras so don't expect much in the way of bonuses. The game is quite hard so I do not recommend this game to the casual gamers. Overall the gameplay makes this game worth it, for the challenge alone.
Graphics The sound is unfortunately the weakest aspect of the game. The music is repetitive and isn't the best sounding material that the Game Boy Advance is capable of. The sound effects are simple and that is nothing to complain about since the game was designed for fast action rather than a soothing forest breeze. The music is nothing to award either as it remains awfully similar throughout the game. It sounds as if it came from a lower system and it's nothing that couldn't have been done decently on a Game Boy Color. Overall it's not bad, but it's not great.
Sound In Conclusion, this game is a treat for hard-core gamers looking for one of the most challenging game on the Game Boy Advance. It doesn't have the best visual or sound but it surely beats some of the horrible stuff I have seen before. Overall I suggest this game to everyone except those not used to difficult games or people who like very detailed visuals. Hey, go but it, you will like it.
