Super Mario Advance Review

Introduction
The Game Boy Advance is the technology of the future and it will play a role in how future systems are developed. I was truly expecting a lot more from the first Mario Advance title. It truly disappointed me, and very few Mario games ever have. This is in no way saying that the game is horrible or mediocre. All I am saying is that this game is too much of a cut and dry port to really present anything fresh to Mario fans. Considering that the game Nintendo ported is considered the weak link of the series. Super Mario Brothers 2 was never a true Mario game to begin with. It has gameplay mechanics that do not have any relation to any other game of the series and it was considered to be a tedious game. It is not bad but it not great. In this review, I will discuss why it is not the game many fans were expecting. Do not worry , explain the good points of the game.

Gameplay
The graphics represent an improved version of the already altered version of Super Mario Brothers 2, as they had been uplifted in the game Super Mario All-Stars. They are colorful and detailed and are plenty of times better than the graphics of the Nintendo original. There are new enemy models and there animations are as fluid as recent two dimensional Mario games get. The levels have improved backgrounds and the new enemy models are surprisingly refreshing. The graphics are the best example of how this game has been improved, but this game does not show off the power of the Game Boy Advance in any way. Overall they are good but could have been better.

Story
The gameplay is far from what anyone would have ever expected of a Mario game. It follows none of the rules that the past Mario games have followed and to be honest, it was never a Mario game. Basically, the game was a rehashed version of a Japanese made game, that was semi popular in that country. Nintendo was simply cashing in on the original games success. They would soon learn that leaving the formula alone, would be the best option. Instead of bouncing on the bad guys heads, you have to jump on them and pick it up. Then you would toss them, them at another enemy. Now this is all fine and dandy but what happens when you have no enemies to throw the one you are holding at? Well that problem was never solved along with a bunch of other glitches in the play mechanics. Maybe that is why Nintendo opted to do something different for the third installment? The bosses are quite fun to go up against and the game is quite long, but no where near the length of future Mario games. The gameplay is a clear ct port of the original with little to no added replay value. Luckily there is a fun multiplayer version of the original Mario Brothers but it does become old after a while. Overall the gameplay is fun but in some areas it is a bit flawed.

Graphics
The sound has been improved slightly but nothing much to talk about. The music does not resemble Mario music at all, yet they are still good. The sound effects are simple, and the added voice samples do sometimes crackle. Overall the sound is decent. In the end, this game is a weak representation of what the Game Boy Advance is capable of. I highly recommend the other two Mario Advance games over this one because they are both simply more fun than this game.
