Bomberman Tournament Review
Introduction Bomberman has always been a popular franchise. From its days on the original Nintendo all the way to his new escapades on the Gamecube, it has sustained what has made it one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. That would be its pure and simple fun. There really isn't anything else to say about the series. it has maintained its fun factor through the years and that is what really matters. This new game keeps all of that intact. Its multiplayer aspect is just as fun as it has always been and its single player game features a simple but fun diversion. This game is how sequels should be made. If developers wish to create something new, then leave the established franchises alone and make new ones. Far too many times have popular game franchises been thrown down the drain. If it isn't broken do not fix it. It seems that Hudson Soft listened.
Gameplay I was very concerned at first how Hudson Soft would go about doing the sound effects and music. Bomberman is essentially a party game so the tunes have to be very upbeat and reflect the surrounding environment. I was surprised with the results as Hudson Soft has delivered an upbeat sound track that fits well with the multiplayer aspect as well as the single player game. The tracks never get old and the sound effects are similar to those of past Bomberman titles. The sound does not disappoint and while it doesn't put me in awe, it does the job.
Story The graphics are by far some of the best the Game Boy Advance launch library had offer and it uses the color palette very well. The environments are colorful and the arenas are full of atmosphere. The cut scenes also show great animation and this kind of work should be seen more often. The environments do begin to feel very similar after a while but they never lose their main appeal. For those who wondered if the multiplayer games graphics had been updated, they are in for a big yes. They are far more detailed than the Bomberman games on the Super Nintendo. Overall the graphics are what we have come to expect from a Bomberman Game.
Graphics The gameplay is by far the best aspect of this game. Simply because its, well, simple. The bomberman formula has always been about fun over complexity so even the youngest of gamers can jump right in and play. The multiplayer aspect of the game is just as fun as Bomberman games of the past and its great to link up with a buddy and bomb away. The single player portion of the game is on the short side but its great fun while it lasts. Collecting creatures and then using them is an interesting aspect to the game. Overall Id say it takes a week to beat and the multiplayer portion will keep you busy for endless hours. The AI is decent, so if you don't have anyone over, then its still a blast to play. I recommend this game to all die hard Bomberman fans as well as gamers just looking for something new to play. Its a great game so go pick it up.
