Black Belt Challenge Review

Introduction
Right from the start you know this review is going to be great. Why? Because I am going to include a free strategy guide with it! And even better, you don’t have to listen to my garbage; I’ll give you the guide right now! Sounds great huh? Well here is my easy seven-step guide to winning on Arcade mode in Black Belt Challenge:

Gameplay
Seriously, this game is too easy. Considering I have avoided fighting games my whole life do to the fact that I am not talented in that area, I was able to start up the game for the first time, on normal difficulty, select a character that looked cool, and beat the game all within 10 minutes. Should a game be that easy? Probably not, but Black Belt does have a few saving graces that keep it from wilting under the boredom of the people that went out and bought this title.

Story

  1. Pick the character that looks the “coolest”
  2. After round begins, wait until computer AI walks towards you and into you without attacking.
  3. After AI walks into you, begin jamming the fastest attack button while pushing in one direction on the control pad.
  4. If the enemy does something crazy like actually hitting you, or even more rare, uses a special move or combo on you, do not panic, this is only the developer’s idea to make sure you don’t get Perfect’s all the time, continue step 3.
  5. Once computer is backed into the corner, continue pounding your favorite attack button until the computer is dead.
  6. If the computer jumps over you (gasp!), switch sides and repeat steps 3 and 4.
  7. Rinse and repeat as needed per level/character.

Now you too can beat Black Belt Challenge!!!

Graphics
To sum this gist of this game up, it’s a goofy anime fighter. The game has ten standard characters to play as and three to unlock, which all have the traditional strange anime-style applied to their design. Luckily, it isn’t a tiny version of Tekken, or any other fighting game for that matter. Each character is unique, from the robot that looks like a spinning top, to the Swedish girl in her “Oh those are gonna hurt” clogs.

Sound
The title also boasts two things that will keep you from being so bored from the game play that you actually design a robot that will hit the punch button for you. The Challenge mode is what it sounds like. The game gives you several challenges to complete in a round (like defeating two characters with one bar of health) and rewards you with some coins that you can go spend at a gallery which consists of art that cost different amounts of money to buy. Although the art isn’t something to marvel at, it gives you a reason to come back and complete some of the idiotic challenges (like “Complete a Hard Kick and a Low Kick”, which means you hit two buttons). The other mode is Survival. If you have played any other game like this then you know that Survival consists of taking on multiple opponents with only a certain amount of health.
