Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Review
Introduction Sonic makes a blast on his first title for the Nintendo Gamecube, a game where you have the choice of playing not only as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles on the good story, but as Shadow, Rouge and Dr. Eggman on the dark story mode.
Gameplay The sound is Sonic Adventure 2 Battles, greatest aspect. When you turn the game on, you feel a rush. The music hits you with fast paced, motivational sound. It gets you pumped up, and keeps you moving on those long levels. Each character has their own song that plays in a movie sequence that features them. Each boss also has there own music which is different from most games where there are three or four songs that are used for all of the bosses. The game has most of the same sounds that it has from most Sonic games. It still makes the same sound that it did in the original when a character hits an item box. The sound for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is amazing and the tunes stay in your head.
Story The graphics are just what was expected. They looked about the same as they did on the Sega Dreamcast. The lighting effects were probably the nicest part of the game. When Sonic curls up into a ball and goes off, there is a tail of blue light that looks amazing. Lights look perfect when the flash and the water ripples when you jump in. They are pretty good graphics but do not use up the full capabilities that the Gamecube offers.
Graphics The game play in Sonic Adventure 2 is good. The best part is the ability to play as both the good guys and the bad guys. There is also a good 2-player multiplayer mode, which consists of racing, battling, kart racing, treasure hunting and chao race and battles. The additional chao raising game also can provide hours of fun. The game controls are simple and can be explained easily by the built in tutorial, but here is the main breakdown. The start button opens the pause menu. The control stick/pad is used to move the player or the cursor. The A button is used to jump. As Sonic or Shadow, pressing the A button while in the air does the homing attack. Once you get the upgrade, as Tails or Dr. Eggman, pressing the A button while in the air uses the hover feature. As Rouge or Knuckles, Pressing a while in the air allows them to glide. As Sonic or Shadow, pressing the B button does the somersault attack which can be used to attack enemies or break boxes. By holding the B button down, they can do the spin dash. Tails and Dr. Eggman shoot missiles by pressing the B button and lock on to enemies or items by holding it down. You can only lock on for a limited amount of time, so don’t wait too long! By pressing the B button, Knuckles and Rouge can Punch and Kick. They can dig by pressing the Y button then the B button. They can also attack enemies by pressing the A button to jump over top of them, and then pressing the B button to drill right into them. They are also the only characters who can swim. Press the B button to dive, and press A to surface. The replay value in Sonic Adventure 2 is very good to. There are different missions for each level, life getting a certain amount of rings or beating it in a certain amount of time. This can make you replay one level for hours just to beat the missions. Overall the game play in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is very good.
