Super Smash Brothers Melee Review
Introduction HAL is brilliant. There are few games that are better than the original, but this one blow the original away. 25 Characters, 29 stages, Adventure mode, Home Run Contest and more have been added to make this one of the best games ever.
Gameplay The sound is incredible. The music is all of your favorite Nintendo music enhanced and made better. If you like Zelda, then listen to the three Zelda songs. Mario has everything from the original tune from Mario Bros. to the newer Rainbow Road music. The sounds that the characters made were very familiar too. Luigi's cry sounds just like it always has. Mario still says Mamamia. Link swings his sword and yells perfectly while he does. The items too sound like they always have. Koopa turtle shells make the pop sound when the hit a character. When a mushroom hit someone, it makes the notice that it always has when the player gets larger or smaller. All around, this game has the best sound for any game cube game yet.
Story The graphics are Stunning. Nintendo Power said it best when they wrote, “After playing this game for months, gamers will still be pressing the pause button just to look at the spectacular graphics". Everything from the nearly perfectly round Kirby, to peaches dress swaying slowly as she floats to the ground, makes the graphics in this game spectacular.
Graphics
The game play is another amazing aspect of the game. The game features the traditional classic mode, plus some new things like adventures mode, home run contest and much, much more to keep a gamer playing for weeks, months and even years. When you first begin to play SSBM, you may have trouble figuring out the controls. Learning how to do smash attacks, special moves, grab, etc. can be hard work. But after one hour playing, the controls will be etched in your mind, and you will be able to every move there is. In Melee, there is an additional special move. Now there is a left or right special move added to the up, down and motionless move. Pressing the B button and a certain direction on the control stick uses all the special moves. The A button controls the smash attack. The longer you hold the A button and the direction you are pushing with the control stick, the more powerful the smash attack will be. The easiest way to grab is by pressing the Z button. Once you have grabbed an opponent you can press Z button to hit them, and by pushing a direction on the control stick, you can throw them. You can also grab by pressing the R and A button together. The shield d is put into use by pressing the R button. There is only a limited amount of energy. The longer you hold your shield, the more power drains. If you wait to long, the shield will break. Lastly, you can taunt by pressing up on the control pad.
Sound All around, this is one of the best games for the Gamecube yet, and will continue to be for a very long time. If you are buying a gamecube, this should be the game you buy.
