Resident Evil 0 Review
Introduction Capcom has always been known for making superb games. Ever since its first game in the 80’s, it has risen to new heights. In the mid 90’s they created a little game that would in very little time, turn into a media giant that not many game franchises can stand up to. Resident Evil is one of Capcom’s most popular franchises to date. Not to mention that it has spawned many sequels. Resident Evil 0 is a game that makes you re-think everything you thought you knew about the series. Mainly because it takes place before the mansion incident that set the stage for the first installment. There is a bigger sense of foreboding in this new game and its more dark graphical style makes it in some ways better than the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil 1. Did Capcom succeed in making a game that could scare you again? The answer is a giant yes.
Gameplay The graphics are much improved as well. They seems to be more sharp and even more detailed as the game goes on. The additions of pre-rendered motion effects make the games atmosphere even more chilling. The new enemy models are creepy and sometime scary and the zombies are a lot more varied in this game. The pre- rendered graphics still have some problems mainly in collision detection, which is highly expected. The lighting is the best part of the visuals as they add a sense of fear into the game. Overall the graphics are top notch.
Story The gameplay is just like all the other Resident Evil games. Yes, that includes the somewhat awkward control scheme. For some reason though, it does not seem as inaccurate as before. The story is quite deep and does add more mysteries into the series as well as solving some from other games. The game takes place on a train which makes for a claustrophobic setting and it never lets up even after you leave the train. The added partner zapping feature is a great addition to the game. It also adds more challenges, including spots where you must split up and solve separate puzzles. Luckily you can switch characters on the fly. The game takes a little longer than Resident Evil 1 to beat but it is still a lengthy game for its type. The difficulty has been ramped up and for those who choose to play on easy, well; they will miss out on a better ending to the game.
Graphics Sound wise, the game is also in top form. It has an atmospheric soundtrack that adds to the dank mood and it is scary when needed. The sound effects are still quite simple but they get the job done. The zombie sounds are still freaky and even the new monsters can make you jump but the ambient sound effects are where the game succeeds.
Sound In the end, Resident Evil 0 provides a solid and in fact, great addition to the series. It is scary, freaky and creepy. Resident Evil 0 should not be missed by anyone.
