Star Wars: Rouge Squadron 2 Review
Introduction Many years have gone by ever since the original Star Wars trilogy hit
theaters. Game companies have been trying to make a successful Star Wars
game, make them feel like they are in the movie. Most tried, all have
failed.
Gameplay Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader (which is quite a long title) is
based on the original three Star Wars movies. You take the position of Luke
Skywalker or Wedge Antilles. Plus, there are also tons of ships you can
choose, from the classical X-Wing to even Imperial Tie Fighters. There are
10 missions overall, which may not sound like much, but they are not easy.
Fun Controls aren’t that hard. Several complex actions can be done, but are not
really needed to get through the first couple of levels.
Story Finally, after nearly twenty years, Rogue Leader has come out for the
Gamecube.
Graphics You start out at the training level, where there are tons of missions you
can do there to receive weapon upgrades and boosters to complete the other
missions on the level. Some upgrades let you do funny things, like blow up
Jabba Jabba’s hut! The training level lets you learn the controls and the
feel for the ships.
Sound After completing the training level, you go on your first mission and
continue on to the last. Any time you can go back to the training levels to
check out something. Each level has a certain amount of goals. On the first level, Death Star,
you have to take your mean and blow up enemy ships. Then you have to destroy
the weapons on the surface of the Death Star. Then you have to go into the
Death Star to destroy it. These goals make the game more fun and
interactive.
Conclusion Sound and graphics is top notch here. The game uses the Gamecube engine
well. One of the best graphics we have seen yet! Explosions and rebels
shouting it straight from the movie, and are done well with the Dolby Pro
Logic II. If you listen closely, you might hear R2-D2 beeping! Music comes
from the movies and are done well. Some slow downs knock out sound and
graphics.
The game lasts for some time, with the DVD-like extras which include behind
the scenes and other interesting information about the creation of the game.
Menu looks slick too, looking like a DVD menu. But, alas like all games, it
has an end. With only ten missions, if you are the master, then it will be
done too quickly.
Overall, one of the best Star Wars games ever. If you are a Star Wars fan,
don’t skip it!
